My name is Karen Worden and I am the Academic Support Librarian for the University of Kent, School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the Medway Campus. Databases
A database is a searchable collection of records many of which will link you to the full text of an article, report etc.

An e-journal collection provides access to a range of journals. They sometimes allow you to search for a subject and so are very similar to databases. Here is a list of some useful databases and e-journal collections for Social work:
Academic Search Complete Contains full text for over 5500 academic, social sciences, humanities, general science, education and multi-cultural journals. This includes over 4600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the full text, it also contains indexing and abstracts for a further 4000 journals. Full text backfiles go back to 1975 for some titles, and indexing and abstracts go back to 1984.

Guardian/Observer archive The Guardian/Observer Archive is an indispensable resource for anyone wanting to understand or learn more about the political, social, economic and cultural events of today. It offers online access to thousands of articles and features from two of the UK's leading providers of informed news and comment.
IngentaConnect Contains journals from a wide range of commercial publishers and learned societies.
JSTOR JSTOR offers a high-quality, interdisciplinary archive to support scholarship and teaching. It includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work.
Oxford University Press journals Approximately 90 titles. Mainly 1996- but you also have access to the main archives for all OUP titles.
SAGE Publications Over 100 titles on a wide range of social science topics.
Web of Knowledge Full text available for some articles using Article Linker.

Sconul Access SCONUL Access is a co-operative venture between most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland. It enables staff, research students, full time postgraduates and part-time, distance learning and placement students to borrow material from other libraries.
